Launched by the Interministerial
Committee for the Information Society (Comité interministériel

Created by decree
on 7 November 2000, the CSTI is responsible for advising the Prime
Minister, to whom it can send any proposal in the field of information
technology and make recommendations regarding the implementation
and evaluation of the activities of the French Government Programme
for the Information Society and European Union programmes.
By counterpoising viewpoints and analyses, it
guides the Government's strategic choices with regard to innovation
and research and development in the field of information technology.
The CSTI meets
three times yearly under the aegis of the Prime Minister and may
draw on any relevant public institutions and services, in particular
on the General Council
on Information Technologies (Conseil général

secretariat.
The Strategic Advisory Board on Information

or CSTI), which is made up of researchers
and business leaders,
advises the Prime Minister in the field of information technology
regarding the implementation and evaluation of the activities
of the French Government Programme for the Information Society
and European Union programmes.
