Alain BRAVO

President, Réseau National de Recherche en Télécommunications (RNRT - National Telecommunications Research Network)



Position on the date of his appointment to the Strategic Advisory Board on Information Technologies, 27 September 2004


Alain Bravo is Director General of Supélec since 1 September 2004.
He has been Chairman of Abhexis (a technology transfer consultancy) since 2001.
From February 2003 to April 2004 he managed the FutuRIS initiative with the support of Association Nationale de Recherche Technologique (ANRT - National Technology Research Association).

He has been President of Ecole Nationale des Télécommunications de Bretagne, the national telecommunications school in Brittany, since 1997.

Alain Bravo worked from 1970 to 1985 at the General Telecommunications Directorate (DGT), where he was Production Director from 1980 until his departure.

From 1985 to 1995 he worked for Compagnie Générale des Eaux, where he became COO in 1994. In 1988 he set up Société Française de Radiotéléphonie (SFR), which he chaired until 1992. He further managed Compagnie Générale de Vidéocommunications from 1991 to 1993 and created SIRIS (today 9Telecom) in 1995.

In 1995 he joined Alcatel as President of the Mobile Network Division. From 1998 to 2001, he was Vice President Research and Technology.

Alain Bravo is President of Réseau National de Recherche en Télécommunications (National Telecommunications Research Network) and chairs the Advisory Committee on Telecommunications Networks and Services attached to the Minister in charge of Industry and the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications, France's telecommunications watchdog.

Alain Bravo is a telecommunications graduate from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications, France's national telecommunications school.
