A graduate from Ecole Polytechnique
de Paris, Serge Tchuruk started out at Mobil Oil, where he held a string of management
positions in France and the United States from 1964 to 1979. In 1979, he became
Chairman of Mobil Oil in the Benelux.
From 1980 to 1986,
he worked for Rhône Poulenc, an international chemicals and pharmaceuticals
group. He held several positions at the Basic Chemicals division before becoming
Chief Operating Officer in 1983.
In 1986, Serge Tchuruk
joined Orkem (formerly CDF-Chimie), a European special chemicals and oil company,
as Chairman and CEO until 1990.
From 1990 to 1995, he
was Chairman and CEO of Total, one of the largest oil companies in the world.
In 1995, Serge Tchuruk joined Alcatel Alsthom (now Alcatel)
as Chairman and CEO.
